Poems for K-12

It's Only to Connect

(in response to the claim that we're self-centered)

You beg us daily to silence our phones,
Tell us we're too easily distracted.
You worry that we're turning into clones
And that our learning will be impacted.

It's true that we turn to our devices
In the middle of lectures and learning
We'd much rather see what new surprises
Are blowing up on Twitter and "trending".

Yes, it might seem that our status updates are vain
And we're always taking selfies,
But this is the way we communicate;
For us Facebook and Snapchat are a breeze.

It's how we touch other lives and connect,

record ideas and voices, earn respect.
